Carrazeda de Ansiães

The first records with documentary reference to the medieval village of Ansiães are the charter that Fernando Magno granted to the villages of Ansiães, Penela, Linhares, Paredes and S. João da Pesqueira. However, in the second document on record, the Infante Dom Afonso grants between 1135 and 1175, also a confirmation of the first document consecrated by the Leonese king.

This medieval village is located in the parish of Lavandeira, municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães, District of Bragança, on the right bank of the Douro River. The occupation of this site, where settlements adapted to the topographic characteristics of the place (a granite hill that has excellent natural defence conditions) went through various situations until it ended in the development of one of the most notorious medieval villages of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.

In gastronomy, the county of Carrazeda de Ansiães, leaves any lover of a good dish mouthwatering. Everything here is of the highest quality, from game dishes such as wild boar, rabbit or partridge, to regional dishes such as oven-roasted potatoes in the shell and roast cod, oven-roasted kid or, at Christmas time, grilled turkey.
